Corporate BI for an Animal-Nutrition Manufacturer

MicroStrategy + Data Warehouse & Datamarts · From Production and Costs to Profitability

Client
Challenge

Montana, an animal-nutrition manufacturer, wanted to move from reporting to genuine corporate decision support — to develop, as a company, the ability to turn data into information and information into knowledge, and so optimize both decision-making and operational performance. It needed one corporate platform that could answer real business problems and recommend decisions. The hardest part was bringing together two worlds that rarely meet: the financial-accounting world measured in dollars per unit of time (per month, per year) and the productive world measured in tonnes — output volumes, ingredient consumption, yield and cost ratios.

The Approach

AYNITECH delivered a corporate Business Intelligence platform on MicroStrategy, built on a data warehouse and datamarts. Data flows from the company’s operational sources — ERP, custom applications, databases and flat files — through a clean-and-reformat pipeline into a governed warehouse (data plus metadata) that feeds OLAP, decision-support (DSS/EIS) and data-mining. Delivery followed the way MicroStrategy works best: identify the data sources, confirm the KPIs, distribute the information as Dossiers, deploy successive Dossier versions, and iterate in an agile cycle. The platform is designed to climb the full maturity curve — operational data, operational management, management dashboards, and a Balanced Scorecard and DSS for profitability, results and decision-making, including what-if analysis.

What It Covers

  • Profitability & Results— product-line profitability, EBITDA, P&L, and what-if analysis.

  • Production & Operations — output volumes, plant performance and yields.

  • Formulation & Costs — raw-material and ingredient costs, and production costs.

  • Inventory & Supply Chain — raw materials, finished goods and distribution.

  • Commercial — sales, customers and channels.

  • Control— expenses and budgets.

  • Maintenance— plant and equipment.

  • Other ratios — quality and further operational metrics.

Why It Matters

Manufacturing runs on two languages — money and product — and very few BI programs unify them. Montana shows AYNITECH building a corporate decision-support platform that ties financial results directly to physical production (tonnes, yield, ingredient cost) across plants, costs and commercial operations, on one governed warehouse. It turns scattered reporting into a single tool that answers business problems and supports decisions in a complex operational business.
