EsSalud is Peru’s social health insurance institution, committed to the integral care of its insured population with equity and solidarity, and serving the wellbeing of some 11 million insured Peruvians across roughly 400 facilities — general hospitals, polyclinics and specialized health centers nationwide, plus its older-adult centers (CAM) and professional rehabilitation centers (CERP). Its Systems area faced a constant stream of new requirements, with every area needing something different each day, and only ever achieving temporary fixes.

The Challenge

EsSalud is Peru’s social health insurance institution, committed to the integral care of its insured population with equity and solidarity, and serving the wellbeing of some 11 million insured Peruvians across roughly 400 facilities — general hospitals, polyclinics and specialized health centers nationwide, plus its older-adult centers (CAM) and professional rehabilitation centers (CERP). Its Systems area faced a constant stream of new requirements, with every area needing something different each day, and only ever achieving temporary fixes.

The Approach

AYNITECH implemented a data warehouse and a Business Intelligence project that consolidated EsSalud’s many sources into a single, enriched database — one source of truth — and deployed BI modules that give the institution a 360° view of its business. The result was a reliable foundation for strategic decision-making in any functional area, with the technological and economic optimization of the institution’s information-center, statistics and reporting environments.

On the Roadmap

The platform opened a clear set of next opportunities:

  • An analysis portal for doctors— letting physicians receive information and collaborate with colleagues and other hospitals on case studies in progress

  • A public analysis portal— offering prevention and health information based on disease trends and behaviors

  • A real-time clinical-history system— saving time and cost, with greater convenience for the patient

  • Management dashboards for hospital directors— all operating data in one place: patients by specialty, consultations per area, most-used medicines, where resources are most needed, and where complaints concentrate
